[SGVLUG] TWC in Linux?

As others have mentioned, for the most part, you should not have to do too much different when switching ISPs unless you are using your email address anywhere or hardcoded the DNS servers. You might need to go over the configuration of your router if the new ISP requires that you login using specific account information before it will hand out an IP. On a previous ISP switch I had to go into various devices such as my NASBOX and reconfigure access for sending out email for alerts.

If possible I try to have a PC available so they can check things so I and the installer are sure that any problems are due to their equipment and not mine.

Regarding email addresses, I stopped using ISP email addresses because you can't take that with you which is why I have switched to using something like gmail.

Hmm, I probably should go through all of my devices yet again. I'm getting my linux fileserver security logs but the NASBOX only needs to send out an email when there's a problem or an update. And while I have been using the giggle fiber connection exclusively for the last few days I still have TWC ISP until I get around to cancelling so I need to make sure I don't have anything TWC specific anywhere. Darn, I should probably reboot everything to be sure but that means resetting my uptime again.

As for leaving TWC, I was pretty happy with their 100 MB service but once the promo price expired, giggle fiber's price became attractive again so I looked.

Oh, I did have to configure the new router to update my dyndns.org DNS entries. It's a little tricky when I reboot both modems and the last one that pushes out the IP wins problem which is another reason to cancel TWC sooner than later.

You shouldn't need to change anything with your debian machine, aside from your LAN IP, as the new network equipment may have a different address range. Your linux user account should be a local account, so I don't see how that would need to change. Do you use a user name at a domain to log into your linux computer, or just a name?

But more than likely an installer would hardly be able to spell Linux, so I must be ready to make any changes in my Debian system.
