Hi Jan,

Off-list, I've sent you a link to a copy of my book, Beginning Ubuntu for
Windows and Mac Users. It was written for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, but is almost
entirely still relevant. The installation chapters should still be 100%
relevant.

Installing Ubuntu is really simple, and you shouldn't run into any trouble,
especially if you're looking to wipe the existing data on the drive. The
fourth installation screen will say "Installation type", and you just have
to choose "Erase disk and install Ubuntu." Then proceed normally.

DO NOTE that pressing "Install Now" on that screen begins the partitioning,
formatting, and file copying process immediately, in the background as you
put in your location and name and so on, so that's the point of no return.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask the list--I'm sure everyone
will be happy to help. :)
