[SGVLUG] DSL: static or faster?

Hi!

I've seen the following issues which have
given me a real negative oppinion of PPPoE

1) PPPoE login server dies or is unavailable
resulting in outage..

2) Customer premise equipment dies / needs to
be replaced... and no one onsite knows the
user name / password combination, resulting in
a call to the help desk, requiring all sorts of
fun to get the username/pw combine since we
also need top secret account info from someone...

meanwhile during this dancing about attempting
to recover, some big shot executives are yelling
and pissed off wanting to have the "internet up"
10mins ago...

THAT would be really nice!!!

I would like to see more positives about
PPPoE, because right now I really see a lot
of the negative aspects of it.
