Hmm.. You wrote this (or at least I only received this) shortly after
midnight -- you had better luck than I did then ;)

Sounds like a good idea :)

As for me, I'm now re-doing the install -- I had "thrown caution to the
wind" and tried a straight update from 10.3 ==> 11.1. I did get one
message about a file being a directory instead of a file, so the
installer couldn't replace it (this is/was something to do with KDE
specifically, and in "skipping" this I got a message indicating it might
break things) It seemed to work at first, but after I logged in with
KDE 4 instead of KDE 3, and /trying/ to add an "applet" [which I
couldn't configure], I somehow managed to kill off the "greeter" applet,
so I couldn't log in "graphically" [I could still log in as a normal
keyboard session and run "startx", but that only got me a kde3 desktop,
not kde4.]

So... Today I backed up anything I considered "important" [to my ipod,
using it as a spare 80GB drive...] and redid the install from the top --
the new "partitioner" is a little nicer than before, and the "install
from images" seems to have sped up the process quite a bit -- it's
already asking to perform an online update...
