I use Debian but I never chose it.  About 10 years ago I thought I
would install Linux on a PC someone gave me.  So I checked the
Internet using my daughter's Mac and found a list of people who were
giving away Linux.  One just happened to live a few blocks away and he
put my HD into his PC and copied Debian Linux to my HD.

What I thought was wrong was Ubuntu, with it's financial backing,
basing itself on Debian without becoming part of Debian.  This weakens
Debian.  Couldn't they have merged with Debian instead?  Ubuntu seems
to now be the most popular distribution and I might be better off if I
switched to it.  But Debian might be better off if I stayed with it
since I email them a lot of bug reports.  Furthermore, they have
someone supporting the LinuxDoc markup (linuxdoc-tools package), which
I don't think any other distribution does and I've written a HOWTO
on it.  So for better or worse I plan to stick with Debian.
