Something I forget to mention -- I highly recommend getting a camera
that uses AA batteries. Get NiMH AA batteries from Best Buy or another
local store and a charger. You can charge these batteries faster than
you can use them, so you can get 8 for a camera that takes 4, and
always have a fresh charge. Including the charger, this is going to
be less than $30, and you don't have to worry about standard size
batteries being discontinued. And, of course, in a pinch, you can
buy alkaline batteries and use them.

If you buy a camera that uses a specialized battery and recharger, you're
going to have a lot more headaches making sure you can keep it charged;
the batteries will be much more expensive; and if you keep the camera
a long time, you may get stranded.

Of course this goes for memory, and anything else you're likely to
replace, too (but I think pretty much all cameras today use standard
flash memory -- I'm partial to Compact Flash because it's an openly
documented standard, but you get the idea).

Cheers,
Terry
