This saturday is the first saturday of the month -- that means that the Devsig
and Webspinners meetings are going on (on opposite sides of town,
naturally ;) )

Devsig: now meeting at La Pintoresca branch library -- 1355 NORTH Raymond
(this is NORTH of the freeway -- don't make the mistake I did in thinking
this was near old town or the "main" branch) If you go to the SGVLUG webpage
and click on the [google] map, place a marker in the upper left corner about
1/2" from the top and directly to the right of Fairoaks Blvd; then
center/zoom in till you see "la pintoresca park" -- the library is in the
south-east corner; enter the parking lot from Raymond. == As usual, "do we
have a topic?"

Webspinners: meets in west L.A. in the mall -- see their webpage for
directions & details [last I checked their meeting topic was listed as TBA,
but I imagine they have something in mind...] www.lawebspinners.org

On the non-linux front, I know of two libraries that are having used-book
sales:

The La Canada library -- often has technical books, and as I recall the
price is less than $5/book, perhaps even $1/book (and for the last hour it is
$1/shopping bag, or something ridiculous like that)

The Southern California Genealogical Society -- don't know what they will
have, but I imagine the focus will be on family research.

     http://www.scgsgenealogy.com/contact-us.htm (for the address)

And, "totally for fun", it is October, so many (?) cities will have
"oktoberfest" events. In particular, the city of Montrose (take the 210 to
Ocean View and turn south [downhill] and you'll run into it)
