no.
if you do not want the public see you missbehave, then don't missbehave
in public.

you can not be sure that anyone is quoting you off list.

if you want privacy on a mailinglist then you need to make sure that any
person joining swears an oath to not cary anything from this list out to
the public.

there is a reasonable expectation of privacy, but that becomes lower as
the number of members in the group rises. with a few hundred people on
the list, many of which you have no clue who they actually are, you
can't really expect your mails to be private anymore.

i am all for privacy, but the best thing to keep something private is,
to not share it at all. for the rest there is encryption. everything
else should be considered public.
