[SGVLUG] An Unusual Alpine Issue?

Hi All: After changing my hosted e-mail from a remote shell-account to
hosting through FastMail in an imap, most things are reasonable, but for
this anoying aspect. While I am in Alpine, when I receive new mail, my
bell doesn't ring. Sure, at the bottom of the screen it mentions where new
mail is from, but no bell. Certainly every shell-account I've had since
1995, my bell always rang. My bell rings for backspacing at a command
prompt, or if I type a controll+g. Can some1 please inform if there are an
easy way of fixing this? The person who maintains Alpine says his bell
only rings in a terminal setup, not in ORCA, a graphical screen-reader.
Obviously not hearing the bell can lead to acting on wrong numbered
messages. I looked in a man-page of setterm, but didn't find anything
obvious. Thanks so much in advance for any-and-all suggestions.
Chime
