[SGVLUG] DSL referral

You are right Shang-Lin, AT&T loses lots of money. The DSLExtreme is like a discount program that they are parent company of. I found that I have to talk only to DSLExtreme with any concerns. AT&T tries to give you to their "DSL" dept. and they now only try to sell you TV services and provide no customer support, really, just heavy handed, even vicious sales pitches. AT&T is my phone company. I will never pay for T.V. --waste of money. I get like 70 free T.V. channels just on public T.V.

I used DSLExtreme for a while. The service was good while I had it, but getting it installed in my apartment was a pain because of the apartment's phone lines. When I moved apartments, it was impossible to set up -- DSLExtreme said the apartment's maintenance had to do something with the phone box, but it was actually AT&T who did work on the box, and they refused to do anything. Coincidentally, AT&T often holds promotions at my apartment building and offers discounts.

I've ended up on AT&T U-Verse after frustration with Spectrum's poor service.

You maybe have to return it. Recently they sent me an upgrade, new modem. I guess my 20 year old borrow from them was causing them static :) They asked for the old one in return...

I used DSLExtreme after AT&T for a while until my kids started college and complained about the slow speeds at home so I went the cable route until the the promo expired then went with a different provider. Otherwise I was happy with DSLExtreme as well.

Does anyone know if the AT&T 2-wire 2701HG-B modem with wireless will work with DSLExtreme? I seem to recall having a modem from them but I'm not finding it so I'm guessing I might have returned it. They are offering a free modem but not sure if it has wireless and they would charge for shipping. Again, my mother-in-law doesn't need the latest modem as she's replacing a dial-up configuration.

So it turns out my wife already ordered, don't know if they'll accept the referral but I asked her to give them a call.

I've had dslextreme for decades. The few times I've called tech support were the most pleasant tech support experiences I've had. My original reason for choosing them ages ago was that they had the most friendly contact available--a refund option if I didn't get at least half the nominal speed, and there wasn't a hidden data cap. They explicitly said I could run a public server for all they cared, as long as they didn't detect an open mail relay.

I'm dllaurence if the referral is still up for grabs.

Looking to get the lowest price internet connection for my
mother-in-law in Monrovia. She doesn't need speed, just needs to
replace a dialup connection that is being discontinued at the end of
        the month.

Best price so far is DSLExtreme. My wife will be ordering something
tomorrow so I'm checking to see if any of the old DSL modems I found
in the cabinet still work and was thinking I should see if anyone here
on the mailing list wanted a referral. Send me your account name and
I'll see if I can get it accepted.

Also let me know if you want to get rid of a compatible DSLExtreme
modem in case the ones I have don't work anymore.

        thanks,
        Claude
