[SGVLUG] Free Web and Email Hosting.

Hello Ed.

I checked out the 000webhost.com many years ago. What most of the "free"
ones do is host it for free for you but you have a subdomain on their site
(i.e. ed.000webhost.com) & you don't really have access to much if anything.

I came across a service earlier that's effing awesome. I've been kicking
around the idea of presenting about it at a LA PERL Mongers meetup.
OpenShift is Red Hat's free PaaS (platform as a service). This is becoming
pretty popular now but what struck me as downright awesome about OpenShift
was when I was told it also supports PERL (I'd never heard of a PaaS that
did that, most are PHP, Python or Ruby-based). What most of the other free
PaaS services charge you for, usually, is to use your own domain. OpenShift
allows you to do that for free. Forever. You can deploy directly from GIT,
if you like. It's just got too many cool features to list. But this is the
service that I now suggest to folks when they're looking for something
similar. Here's a short video.

What you haven't mentioned is what stack or languages are you planning on
using. That might better determine what options you have.

cheers.
