[SGVLUG] Sweet spot for price/performance for new barebones system?

fyi -

remember to FULLY check any system you buy.

example:
Dell 200 vostro... recently discovered that
the microphone doesn't work, contacted dell,
sound card determined to need replacement.
thankfully caught this issue while in
warranty,... unfortunately many of their
systems can only be troubleshooted running
windows ( thus maybe good to keep a 
windows partition available.. )

everything else on the system seemed ok...
