hmmmm.... well, free as in beer free...

also, I was thinking that VS could be used to make
OSS licensed original code... while MS may not like
GPL, I don't recall anything that would restrict me
from making original SW under GPL or other OSS terms.

I would also expect some of us here will need to
support clients using MS products... as such it would be
nice to not have to pay for it, and also it would be
nice to run it under a VM on a linux system.. thus
windows server/sql 2008 should be a nice thing to have 
(especially since I rarely expect to run it... )
