Exactly,

Even though DC was the first to market and Edison's choice,
Westinghouse won with AC with the transformer and the ability to send
electricity far distances from the generating station (Edison's
original plan required DC plants in every neighborhood). By the time
the technology was available for DC AC was already so entrenched that
it was game over.
