As I recall, Openoffice went to XML (which is then compressed via zip)
at it's last major rev; in either case, could it be any worse than
RFC3252 ? (look it up...)

Office 2007 files are all based on XML (semi-cool, I guesss) and so
therefore all the formats have changed from .doc to .docx or .ppt to
.pptx, so as far as I know, open office cannot open any new office file
formats.
