You can get a PC to sync to those Sun and SGI monitors if your graphics
card will do it.  This requires specifically editing the mode lines of
xorg.conf.  The machine will not display anything until X comes up with
that config, so CMOS and other stuff has to be right before you boot.  I
have a friend who did get a similar single-sync monitor working with a
normal PC.  It was several years ago (back when SCLUG still met at
Nortel) but I'm sure I could get details from him if I asked.
