Here is the second message. Clearly they'll take anything, however
meaningless. You know, we should have an outrageously oronate and
formal membership certificate somewhere that we trot out once in a blue
moon for stuff like this. :-)
Either the San Diego LUGs are more formal than up here or they already
knew this and just make up stuff.

Sorry this seems to be so complicated. Other group didn't have any
problem.
You mentioned being on a mailing list, correct?
Print one of the emails you received from them and you should be good.
We trust you!

A note from the president of your group stating that you are a member
Uh, how would you know I didn't write it myself? For that matter, I
don't think we exactly have a president. Mike took over introducing the
meetings, but I don't think we quite do titles.
would be fine or, if you have to pay to join the group, your receipt
could work as well.
If none of these are possible options, please bring a copy of the
newsletter you receive.
We don't have dues or a newsletter because then we'd have to have
structure...basically, we have monthly presentations at Caltech and a
mailing list.
This isn't at all uncommon for user groups, I don't think. It's true of
UUASC, for example, except there we do have an actual president.
