Have a look behind the scenes as Cassini Mission Controllers send
commands to the distant robot spacecraft. The audience is invited for
a virtual visit to Cassini real-time operations. Orbiting Saturn
nearly a billion miles from here, "real time" for Cassini is almost an
hour and a half away, given speed-of-light radio transmissions.
Controllers work closely with the worldwide Deep Space Network,
communicating with Cassini daily, and occasionally carrying out
special experiments for the Radio Science team. We'll have a look at
some of the latest results from the amazing Saturnian system, while
discussing how the busy spacecraft obtains them, and transports them
intact back to Earth. This presentation makes it clear how
cutting-edge successes deep in our solar system have become the daily
routine in JPL's Space Flight Operations Facility.
