not for the content, but for the style.  It should use a "proper" signature indicator of <dash><dash><space> (which I think is pretty screwy, but it is already set in stone) so that an e-mail client at least has a chance of detecting and removing it.  Of course, not too many clients honor this indicator, and often it gets mangled by transports or agents that remove TRAILING spaces from lines (which is why I think the definition is screwy.)  The worst offenders are programs like this [outlook], and not far behind are "web based" [though I don't have any direct experience with such, I'd imagine this would be the case because "by definition" HTML strips unneccessary spaces]
