They already have WiFi there, this is not an add-on to a secure network. I talked with the manager, he was happy to take the donation of the WAP and will work to get it hooked up. Let's cross our fingers for next month. I did not offer to run the cable as he was already off on his own plans on how to implement.

Matt

---------
Matthew Campbell
Storage and Cloud Strategy
Office of the CTO

Kaiser Permanente
99 S. Yes there are "cash registers and credit card readers” on the network. The public wifi is just an “extra”. I was told the manager was the person to talk to about permission, but that some coordination with their DSL provider would be needed to guarantee the correct prioritization of the register traffic, etc.
Seemed like a fun/easy project until all the other parties got added in.
Now if it starts getting hard, another option would be a WiFi repeater. In particular if it could provide 5GHz service repeated from their existing 2.4GHz ‘Net then it wouldn’t be stepping on itself like standard consumer repeaters. We wouldn’t be using any BC service that isn’t already offered to the public except power.
