Howdy folks,
First off, I'd like to say "Hi" to everyone as I just joined the list & am looking forward to attending the first meeting.

As far as garnering more interest in attendees, I've got a couple ideas.
Everyone's got blogs these days & I'm sure most of you do as well. Maybe writing up a small bit about it would, at least, expose more folks to this. The same could be used for the myriad of social networking sites out there- myspace, gather, friendster, linkedIn, etc.

Also, what about emailing your friends about it? I know, personally, the majority of my friends are non-techies but they might know a friend of a friend, etc. As someone who's an avid believer in open-source & Linux, I tell lots of friends about it, blog about & the like in an effort to at least open people's eyes to the fact they have options they're not even aware of.

Since I've yet to meet you folks, I hope this doesn't come off as "who's this new guy trying to talk to?"

Cya folks next Thursday,
--miguel

On 6/7/07,

mhmm, good points. Especially the first. I can definitely see some issues there.

On 6/7/07, Emerson, Tom (*IC) <

Interesting, but has a few problems -- I set up a search for the term
"rockets" and got an article on Brittany Spears (hitting "rock" bottom),
someone who mentioned eating at "johnny rockets", a page of band events
where one band (or was it a song?) had the word "rocket" in their name,
and so on. All too often when I search for "linux", I get unrelated
pages where there happens to be an /ad/ for something "linux related" on
the page -- the "story" itself has nothing to do with linux...

I'm also not too keen on the fact that the links take you to /their/
version of the page, and then you have to click again to get to the
/actual/ page referenced...

-----Original Message----- Of Matthew Gallizzi

This site has a cool widget we could put on the site for Linux news.

http://www.rootly.com/tools/widget/

has it on the bottom left hand corner...
but, you can do a lot of different customizations with it. Just a
thought :D

[
