<pre wrap="">Hi James,
It's probably easier to let yum take care of the dependencies for you:
yum install compat-gcc-c++
Then do the rpm install of VRTSralus.
Yum is basically a wrapper around rpm that downloads the reqested rpms,
figures out what else needs to be installed via a dependency tree, and
downloads and installs all of it. It is the standard way to install
software on FC5.

<pre wrap="">I'm trying to install Backup Exec's remote agent for Linux on my dual 64
bit Opteron system running FC 5. I called their technical support and
they said they do not support FC 5 nor the 64 bit version on any platform.
He sent me a technote with instructions with a disclaimer that I was
basically on my own and they do not support this. I'm a little
frustrated as we did pay the extra money for support only to find out
that they don't support us.
I'm trying to run:
rpm -Uhv VRTSralus-10.00.5629-0.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 is needed by VRTSralus-10.00.5629-0.i386
The instructions told me I needed to download
compat-gcc-c++-7.3-2.96.128.i386.rpm however when I run:
rpm -Uhv compat-gcc-c++-7.3-2.96.128.i386.rpm
warning: compat-gcc-c++-7.3-2.96.128.i386.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature:
NOKEY, key ID 73307de6
error: Failed dependencies:
compat-gcc = 7.3-2.96.128 is needed by
compat-gcc-c++-7.3-2.96.128.i386
compat-libstdc++ = 7.3 is needed by
compat-gcc-c++-7.3-2.96.128.i386
compat-libstdc++-devel = 7.3 is needed by
compat-gcc-c++-7.3-2.96.128.i386
Should I continue hunting down dependencies or am I doing something wrong?
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?
I had no problems getting the remote agent for linux running on our Sun
Fire system running RHE 3 last year.
Thanks in advance,
James
