Speaker Bio (Sean Marquez):
Technical writer, experienced in DocOps, mechanical design, & model-based engineering, developing open processes & tools for distributed manufacturing & OSHW
Short Abstract:
A frustrating and recurring trope when working with a distributed team across multiple platforms is hearing the phrase, "well, it works on my machine". An immutable-infrastructure-as-code (IIAC) approach provides a means for configuring reproducible build systems for hardware, software, & documentation, by adhering to the principle that configuration should be immutable, while data should be persistent. This presentation will showcase an example workflow of an IIAC workspace in action for building documentation & software for aerospace hardware using the NASA/JPL FPrime framework.
Outline:Pain points
- A common trope in software development is hearing the phrase "it works on my machine"
- Distributed team across multiple platforms
- Need for reproducible builds
Approach
- Immutable infrastructure as code
Principle
- Configuration s/b immutable while data is persistent
Similar to
- Docs-as-code, but for desktops
Demo
- Flash and control fprime blinking led example on raspberry pi
