Hi al,

Glad I went to the talk.  It was pretty cool.  Dr. Norris does a good job of laying out the reasons why JPL would pursue this technology and how to get to an immersive environment step-by-step.  Lot of cool videos and live demos.

Someone got a question in about open sourcing the work that Dr. Norris's group is doing, and he seemed very enthusiastic about it.  It's more a matter of getting institutional support to do it.

The talk will eventually be available online, but I've never paid attention to how long it takes.  Just check the von Karman lecture website.

You can get a taste of the immersive experience by going to the following link using a smartphone or tablet device.   It will let you pan around a Mars panorama. He recommended an iphone because the sensors are more sensitive.

Try it while you can.  Looks like it uses Amazon cloud computing so I am not sure when they will shut it off.
