[SGVLUG] URGENT: We are losing Downs 107

Hi Everyone,

I will try to speak to the PMA division chair next week and ask him to
sponsor us. This means inviting him to our meeting and hoping that he likes
us.

Another possibility on campus is partnering with the Under Graduate Computer
Science Club. They all use Linux anyway so I am sure we can be mentors for
them or give them "free" advice etc. right? Let's hope for the best.

Hi all,

Thanks to Junaid's diligence with room reservations and the forbearance of
the PMA Division, we had been able to continue meeting at Downs 107.
However, that is coming to an end. We may continue meeting there in November
and December, but we need to find a new place in January.

According to university policy, since this is a non-Caltech group, we need a
department or division sponsor to continue meeting at Caltech.

I've been trying very hard this past year to make sure we have a place to
meet and presenters each month. I've been through this search three times
already and it comes down to:

* Become a Caltech group
* Find a Caltech sponsor
* Try to reserve a Pasadena Pulbic Library meeting room (Hastings Branch or
Central Library)
* Find a Pasadena City College sponsor
* Find a member who has a workplace willing to host meetings after hours.
* Charge a fee so we can rent a meeting place
* Change our meeting time to make it easier to find a meeting place.

The LUG has a presentation format. We need a place that has a projector and
seating and is quiet enough for the speaker to be heard. Also, a place with
free wifi is preferred. Thursdays from 7-9pm has worked for a number of
years.

This is a time for action. Two months passes by pretty quickly. I don't feel
comfortable trying to line up more speakers when I don't know when and where
we will be meeting.
