[SGVLUG] Social engineering hack (old story)

I thought this would be of interest to the group. This is a story from August 2012, but this is my first time seeing it, so perhaps it's new to the group as well.

A Wired journalist has his Google and Apple and Twitter account hacked for lulz with the collateral damage of his Apple devices and laptop being remote-wiped.  He thought someone had brute-forced his password, but it turned out to be a matter of social engineering.   He was contacted by the hacker who broke into his account and learned how it was done.  These tricks were so simple, anyone could use them.  I really hope the companies have locked down their systems since then.
