Lowest cost per TB. Unreliable drives seem to be temporary
manufacturing slip-ups. My experience has been mostly good:
Two SATA Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C, one a .5 TB Model HDS721050CLA362,
the other a 1.0 TB Model HDS721010CLA332, were acquired 2010 Feb. 1
and 2010 March 14 and are doing fine, as are two ATA Maxtor .5 TB
STM3500630A drives acquired 2007 August 21.
On the other hand, two of a batch of three ATA 90 GB Hitachi Deskstar
7K250 purchased 2004 April 14 have failed. (Actually, they're both
still readable, but they do noisy resets with increasing frequency so
I've taken them out of service.)
These drives are (or were) all in continuous service 24x7.
