LINUX Systems Administrator 

Job Description:

System Administrator, with Linux experience, with the ability to: 1)
install, configure, implement and maintain Linux computer hardware,
operating systems and commercial and public domain applications; 2)
maintain system and data security processes and applications; You will
be responsible for disk storage devices, Intel based servers, Sun
servers, SAN and NAS devices, and network equipment located at an
offsite Pasadena location as well as at the customer site which is the
Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.  You will also be responsible for
building, configuring, and troubleshooting open source and commercial
applications.  Support will consist of basic system administration:
hardware maintenance, system installation and configuration, system and
data security, backups and recovery, software installation, user
support, and documentation.

 

Required Skills:

A minimum of 3 year hands-on technical experience 

Familiarity with Linux systems administration problems and solutions

Excellent user interface / interpersonal / written and verbal
communication skills

The ability to operate in a team environment consisting of both internal
and external members, co-workers and customers

The ability to document and electronically store daily task information,
architecture, processes, and user instructions

The ability to work independently

 

Desired Skills:

Three to four years experience with server and storage hardware support
(Dell, Sun, and IBM)

Familiarity with multiple Linux distributions with an emphasis on Redhat
Enterprise

Experience with high performance clusters in a scientific environment

Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Cacti and Ganglia

Working knowledge of LAMP stack

Scripting experience such as shell, php, and perl

 

Desired Education:

BS/BA Computer or Engineering related discipline

And / or BS/BS with equivalent working experience in Computer Systems
Administration

And / or Appropriate computer certification(s) or college level class
work with 4 years of experience
