[SGVLUG] ubuntu and on board realtek NIC issues

Hi,

Have any of you had experience with Realtek onboard NICs?

currently I have been attempting to get the newest 
ubuntu (11.x) to work with a new MB which has a 
1Gb Realtek NIC onboard

closer inspection:

sudo lshw -C network

shows the chip:
rtl8111/8168b

mac address looks looks good.

however, we note: link=no

( link light is off, in the BIOS the NIC is enabled. )

I am currently looking at various leads via google..
curious if anyone here has had success with this.
