Greetings everyone,
The 9th Annual Southern California Linux Expo is fast approaching with a
fantastic line up for both speakers & exhibitors. The two keynote
speakers have been selected and attendees will have the opportunity to
hear both Leigh Honeywell & Jane Silber.
Leigh is the co-founder and current president of HackLab.TO, a
hackerspace in downtown Toronto. She currently serves on the board of
advisors of the SECtor security conference, has served as a Google
Summer of Code mentor, and is one of the Tres Chix leading the Ubuntu
Women project.
Jane started her career as a software developer and has continued to
rely on that foundation in her years of business development, strategy,
operations and product development experience. She served as Canonical's
Chief Operating Officer from its founding and became its CEO last year.
In addition to these two fantastic keynote speakers, SCALE will also
play host to 60+ speakers on a variety of topics. For database
enthusiasts, SCALE regular Josh Berkus will be discussing how to scaling
our your postgresql databases in his talk titled "The Elephant Scales
Out". For the network administrators, Kyle Rankin will be discussing
how to implement simple fault tolerance using the concept of ethernet
bonding in his talk "Bond, Ethernet Bond". For those attendees with an
passion for everyone's favorite open source image editor, the Gimp,
Akkana Peck will be demonstrating how to write custom scripts & plugins
to quickly automate common Gimp tasks.
Of course SCALE also has tons of great exhibitors, way too many to
possibly list here, for an update to the minute list please visit the
SCALE web site.
As usual SGVLUG members that are interested in attending the event can
use the promotional code SGVLU to receive a 50% discount off a full
priced ticket. This allows you access to all the SCALE sponsored events
on Friday the 25th, the exhibitor floor on Saturday and Sunday, and of

Hope to see everyone there!
Gareth
