BJ: At the March Dev-Sig we got started
with PHP online with OrgFree hosting. We
had orientation for two sig attendees.
BJ: It turns out QuickDat has some limitations
that should be remedied, and learning PHP
file handling is what is needed to overcome
the deficiencies, and in the process of
doing this as a class exercise we get
introduced to PHP features (data types,
strings and arrays) as a by-product.
BJ: I am again making a general announcement
for any others who may wish to join that
are not on the Dev-Sig list.
BJ: This coming Saturday at 1PM is time
for the Dev-Sig meeting in Burbank. Check
our sgvlug site for further information.
Note. OrgFree hosting is on a Linux/Unix
server. But we can also explore running
scripts on a local Apache server, in
which the compiler Tom Emerson found would
be something of interest to use.

BJ: I set up two hosted websites for use
by those who plan to attend the PHP Class
at the Dev-Sig meetings. They are
http://sgvlugphpclass.orgfree.com/
and
http://sgvlugphpclass.awardspace.us/
BJ: We can access the File Manager,
upload, edit, and play with PHP programs
through the hosting service utilities
for the respective sites.
BJ: I have uploaded a simple database
system based using CSV files. And have
uploaded php files for the PHP Files
Tutorial from Tizag.
BJ: The database system (QuickDat)is
simple enough for those with some
acquaintance with PHP already to
explain to those us are beginners,
but is usable and complete enough
in itself to be of interest to them
too.
BJ: I propose going through the Files
Tutorial as an preliminary to looking
at QuickDat, and doing other tutorial
lessons.
