Thanks -- as I inferred, the host system will be top-of-the-line (i7, probably a 920; 6GB of RAM; SATA-300 drives set as RAID, etc.) I haven't figured out which video card to use yet -- unfortunately what's good for gaming (3d GPU's) don't do squat for video editing, and likewise cards that are good for editing (Nvidia "Quadro" or ATI "FireGL" boards) are crap for first-person games. That's why I'm somewhat curious about actual/perceived "responsiveness" of something more intensive than Freecell :)

That was meant more of an example of not-first-person-shooter game than a specific game I play with any regularity -- I've been finding many great titles at Big-Lots for typically $6 each as opposed to the $60 they were when they first hit the market. I suspect these games were either in genre's that were saturated, hence they never made it in the market, or else they are/were truly dogs of a game; in short, few people will likely have heard of them, and it's even "if-ier" still that cedega/wine will run them...

[come to think of it, though, I picked up the NWN "gold" edition at the Pomona swapmeet a year or so ago for less than $10...]
