I probably don't have suitable memory for that, either. My bag is pretty
ancient stuff, mostly suitable for 4-586 class machines. But the net
says it should have at least 128 Mb and could have up to 4 Gb. Not bad
for a P-III.

It probably doesn't have controllers for lowly consumer-level disks,
does it? It probably has a slot for a controller, though. Hmm, yes, the
net says it has lots of PCI slots, though some may not take
consumer-type cards.

Hmm. I believe I have two 10Gb SCSI disks in the box that likely work.
Modulo issues of SCSI generation and cabling (I never understood SCSI
cabling, frankly, but someone here will), they might complete the box.

I'm probably insane to say this, as my current project is to get *rid*
of excess hardware, but maybe I should take the server and see if my
spare SCSI disks work in it (I bet it'll need some bizzare SCSI cable or
adapter I don't have). I'd like a peek inside at the hardware anyway.

If it works, I could re-offer it to the group as a complete working
computer. That might bring in more interest than an unknown box. Or
maybe I'll make it into an extra desktop. The worst that could happen is
that I dispose of it instead of you, and I already have to make at least
one more trip to hazardous waste disposal anyway.

Or, and here's a crazy thought, I could retire my P-II server and use,
actual, you know, *server* hardware. My consumer-level crap hardware
probably draws almost as much power anyway. And if the wife gets upset
about the space, I could pass one of the other boxen down to David as I
actually have a machine or two in the class he likes to use.
