Wow.... Paranoia and distrust and a little to much drinking of the open source kool aid.

John you really need to lighten up. Big time. I appreciate your enthusiasm and crusade. I really do. But good grief man. Tone it down a bit into a manner that is more constructive to accomplishing your goal vs alienating people.

Did you ever stop and think why matti thought you said he wasn't an open source advocate?

As for secret software.... i have supported very large windows and linux implementations responsible for billions of dollars in transactions a month.

Having access to the source code (in the case of linux) was of far less use to me than having ready access to outstanding documentation and experts in both the case of windows and linux.

I was going to stay out of this thread until it descended into something of a flame war and you attacked matti.

I can tolerate a lot of advocacy and crusade like conversation. Everyone is entitled to a public forum for their opinions and spirited discussion of technical and political issues. That is the beauty of this country.

However I can not and will not tolerate personal attacks and flames in any forum. It detracts from the overall mission which is to provide the best solution to every problem based on facts and data, whatever the final outcome is.

Matti, read what I said! Far from claiming you're not an advocate of
Open Source, and fearful that you're taking my words as a personal
attack, I'm bending over backwards to acknowledge your unquestioned
achievements as an Open Source advocate. I have great respect and
admiration for what you're doing for SGVLUG in particular and Open
Source in general, as who in this community does not.

This is not a personal issue between you and me, it's a constructive
dialogue about how an Open Source advocate can deal with secret
software.
