Hi,

fyi - it is a 7.62mm/30 caliber/.30inch MG
(7.62x51mm Nato in this case.. basically
a 308 winchester.. )

NO WAY someone can fire a 50 caliber(12.5mm/0.5inch)
BMG while standing and REMAIN standing without
support.

yes, it is the replacement for the M60..
it only took the us military about 3 decades
to finally decide to replace the less reliable
M60 with the FN MAG (orig came out about 1958..)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_MAG

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M240

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M60_machine_gun

and the KE of a 7.62mm round is significant,
but as people pointed out about shooting
paper targets...

and, yes the US military generally uses
"ball" rounds - typically solid lead/steal
core, which are good penetrators and as such
retain their energy longer. (as than hollow
point rounds, which deform early and lose
their energy quickly.)

hmmmm... american fireworks (made in china no
doubt) probably would have been more
to people's liking.. like this h2o melon..
