For the last year or so the L.A. computer faire / marketplace / swapmeet
or whatever-you-want-to-call-it has had a drop-off spot in the parking
lot for "safe" disposal of monitors (in particular) and other electronic
"stuff".  They will even /pay/  >ahem< "reimburse" you for your dead
monitor -- half the cost of "regular" parking (so you can bring two
monitors and park for free)  Unfortunately, they only pay for monitors
(but will gladly take whatever /other/ stuff you might bring) and will
/only/ reimburse you for two monitors per event.  (Personally, I suspect
someone there picks through it to separate out any not-quite-dead stuff
for resale at a better markup...)  this is also only at the Pomona
fairground location so far as I know...
