I am a recruiter for Columbus Technologies and Services and we are currently
aggressively recruiting for a Training Specialist at NASA's Jet Propulsion
Laboratory in Pasadena, Ca. This is a contracting position (With Full
Benefits) that is approximately 12 months in length but could go on longer.

Linux/UNIX Systems Administrator (Click Here) -1817


Description BA/BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or similar
technical discipline with 9 to 12 years experience, or MS/MA degree with 6+
years experience or equivalent. Must have good understanding of data
processing systems and systems engineering. Basic knowledge & application of
advanced concepts & practices of system engineering disciplines. Must have
background in software development, including Configuration Management. Must
have knowledge of UNIX systems including Solaris Redhat Linux and SuSE
Linux. Must have experience in installing, managing and maintaining large
UNIX systems including Solaris , LINUX and VxWorks operating system. Must
possess excellent speaking, writing, and presenting skills and be able to
work with others in a team environment. Extensive experience with Unix/Linux
testing strategies, networking skills and data analysis. Possess the ability
to provide technical guidelines to technical personnel in all phases of work
activities. Must possess in-depth knowledge of NASA IT Security requirements
Must be able to work effectively both independently and within a team
environment. Must possess the ability to thoroughly evaluate software
packages for hardware and software compatibility. Must possess extensive
experience with Sun Cluster and Linux cluster in a flight operation
environment. Must have knowledge of storage systems including hardware and
software RAID. Must be able to design, build and maintain NFS and NIS
servers across a heterogeneous network. Must have extensive knowledge of
Unix/Linux file systems. Must be able to implement and administer backup
systems. Must be able to demonstrate advanced troubleshooting and problem
solving abilities. Must be able to research and recommend hardware and
software purchases. The selected candidate will be required to work off
hours as per project requirements, and travel when necessary for project
support.



Desired: Substantial understanding of data processing systems and systems
engineering. Demonstrated ability to define system requirements and follow
through with implementation. Significant system administration experience
working in large Unix/Linux system, Operating systems and network systems.
Demonstrate the ability to define system implementation. Self-motivation and
drive extremely desirable.



Will: Support flight and non-flight Projects during their Development Life
Cycle and during Mission Operations. Evaluate project requirements and be
involved in project costing exercises. Architect the Infrastructure for
Flight hardware and Software Testbeds. Manage and lead other SE. Be
responsible for ensuring project/users schedule requirements are met.
Engineer programs and scripts to address needs of system administrators and
users. Selecting, installing, managing, troubleshooting, evaluating UNIX,
VxWorks, Solaris and Linux Workstations. Responsible for the design,
configuration, generation and execution of Jumpstarts and Kickstart.
Responsible for the Third Party Software implementation, control, testing,
interface with users, documentation, and deployment. Be asked to provide
training and assistance to other SE personnel.
