what about a matrox g450 for $11 from tigerdirect? I've seen it sometimes in the local paper for $35.

After fiddling with it, I went straight to Fry's.  A sales person escorted me to the video card section.   She  showed me the  cheapest  one - $50.  I've been to 3 other stores.  The ATI you found looks pretty  good; $25 + freight.  I'll go back to CompUSA and see if the $35 will work.
Are there 2 incompatible PCI standards?

    Look around the bottom shelves at Fry's -- they usually have the old/off-brand cards in the under-20-dollar range there, most any of them should work, especially if you had a diamond in the past.
   
  For that matter, a replacement viper 330 (if you can find it) might even be in the $20-40  range nowadays ;)
