And the rest of the file? Do "less -i -j22 -pmouse xorg.0.log" and
visit each occurrence of "mouse" using the "n" and "N" keys looking
for clues. I have a machine that uses X and a PS2 mouse, and the
command "grep -i mouse /var/log/XFree86.0.log" gives

   (**) |-->Input Device "Configured Mouse"
   (II) LoadModule: "mouse"
   (II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/mouse_drv.o
   (II) Module mouse: vendor="The XFree86 Project"
   (==) ATI(0): Silken mouse enabled
   (==) TRIDENT(1): Silken mouse enabled
   (**) Configured Mouse: Protocol: "ImPS/2"
   (**) Configured Mouse: Core Pointer
   (**) Configured Mouse: Emulate3Buttons, Emulate3Timeout: 50
   (**) Configured Mouse: ZAxisMapping: buttons 4 and 5
   (**) Configured Mouse: Buttons: 5
   (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Configured Mouse" (type: MOUSE)
   (II) Configured Mouse: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
   (II) Configured Mouse: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded

Hope this helps.
