Thanks to Chris and Dustin and Michael for an enlightening and
civilized discussion of memory management.  This is what makes email
great!  The pace of email is just right to support this kind of
debate; no impromptu medium like voice or instant messaging or
physical meetings does as well.

(Now, if we could only get these guys to pay attention to the
distinction between the possessive pronoun "its" and the contraction
"it's" ... ! :-)
