They told me it was the "logic board."  Basically the video circuits 
barfed hardcore.  The screen will splatter with some bad graphic 
artifact, perhaps a few dozen horizontal, static lines, or maybe every 
other red sub-pixel will turn on.  Sometimes it looks fine but over the 
course of time, the screen fades to gull gray.  Sometimes it won't even 
boot at all, actually more often than not.

Of course, after it comes back from repair (replacing the logic board), 
it's just rock solid until it just poof -- stops working again without 
warning.
